Citroën Aircross Introduces 1.2L NA Petrol 5MT Engine, Now the Most Affordable Compact SUV in Its Class
After launching the Basalt SUV, Citroën has been actively updating its C-Cubed lineup. Following the price announcement for the updated C3 hatchback, the company has made a significant change to the C3 Aircross, which is now simply called "Aircross," with a considerable price drop. Let’s explore the updates.
In response to sluggish sales, Citroën appears to be adopting a bold strategy. We first saw them break from tradition with the Basalt unveiling, followed by aggressive pricing for that model. Now, the C3 Aircross has undergone a major overhaul, rebranding itself as just Aircross.
Citroën Aircross Launched at ₹8.49 Lakh: A Fresh Take on Compact SUVs
The Citroën Aircross has made a significant debut, starting at ₹8.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 5-seater variant—making it about ₹1.5 lakh more affordable than its predecessor, the C3 Aircross. This price drop is made possible by introducing the Puretech 82 naturally aspirated engine, now available with the Aircross, along with an optional 5+2 seating arrangement. The engine is paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission. Previously, the C3 Aircross did not offer a naturally aspirated petrol option, but the Aircross aims to attract more buyers with its competitive entry price. Note that the base price of ₹8.49 lakh is introductory and subject to change at Citroën's discretion.
The Aircross comes in three trim levels: You, Plus, and Max. Turbo petrol variants begin at ₹11.95 lakh (ex-showroom). For those considering the upgrade from the 1.2 NA Plus to the 1.2 Turbo Plus, it will cost around ₹2 lakh (ex-showroom), with an additional ₹35,000 for the 5+2 seating option and ₹1.3 lakh for a 6-speed torque converter—significantly more than the ₹85,000 upgrade for the C3 hatchback. Safety features in the Aircross include six airbags, ESP, Hill Hold, TPMS, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
Compared to the C3 Aircross, the new Aircross boasts several enhancements. It features LED headlights within projectors, electrically foldable ORVMs, and repositioned side turn indicators on the ORVMs. Inside, notable additions include automatic climate control, floor-mounted AC vents, a front armrest, and a more user-friendly arrangement for window switches on the door pads.
On the powertrain front, the Aircross introduces the 1.2L NA Petrol 5MT combination, which was absent in the C3 Aircross. The 1.2L Turbo Petrol remains unchanged, offering options for a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter transmission. Shishir Mishra, Brand Head of Citroën India, stated: “The Aircross SUV has been cherished for its ride quality and comfort since its launch. We aimed to build on that success by establishing its unique identity, and we are excited to introduce the new Aircross. This updated model perfectly embodies our commitment to advanced comfort, safety, and technology in a dynamic and practical package.”
